“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.” – Colin Powell
The more I write and talk about Success-Minded People fulfilling their dreams; I seem to come across those who feel that dreams are not a spiritual thing. Some think that God wants us to abandon our dreams and just follow Him. The problem with this thinking is twofold: one, who do you think gave you that dream or purpose? Do you think it just fell into your head one day and got stuck? Second, I am fully committed to following God, so where are you going? Those who deny their God-given purpose do not seem to know where they are going.
YOU ARE CREATED FOR A PURPOSE
I have said many times, you have been created for a purpose. God did not need to fill a space or meet a quota. He chose to put you on this earth for a reason. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us: “For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” The greatest hope of all mankind is that we have a purpose. Humans were never designed to feel useless. We must know that there is a reason for our being here or we begin to self destruct. Author Bruce Wilkinson in his book The Dream Giver said, “The key to discovering all you are meant to do and be is to wake up to the big dream God has given you and set out on the journey to achieve it.”
GOD’S WILL
God’s will for our lives is not a mystery that He keeps hidden from us. He not only places the dream in our hearts but he stirs it up now and then to remind us that we have something important to do. Professor Leonard Sweet said “Your life is not your own; it belongs to God. To ‘be yourself’ is to be and do what God wants you to be and do, knowing that God created you for a mission and knows you and your mission better than you do.”
YOUR MISSION
That mission you have been assigned is never – I repeat – never something you will hate to do. It is the one thing that you desire more than anything because it completes you. Even if that mission or dream is impossible in your eyes you will want it. God has made us to will and to do His good will. He gave us the dream and the passion to fulfill it.
The only way you can follow the Lord is to know where He is taking you. Those who sit around waiting for God to tell them what to do are being foolish and wasteful of the gift God has given them. Get up and start moving toward the dream you have held for so long. You do not need to know all the details first. You do not – and will not – know all the outcomes. We all are on a journey and take each step as we go. And don’t worry if it all seems so impossible. I have often told those I coach, if your dream is not impossible it is not big enough. If you could do it you would not need God’s help. Step out and see Him use you for wonderful things that are far bigger than you are.
