“Big pay and little responsibility are circumstances seldom found together.” – Napoleon Hill
Let me start with the bottom line: Success-Minded People – Success-Minded Christians (you should know by now I believe them to be one and the same) should be the best employees in the world. They should be the hardest workers, the most dependable, most trusted, most loyal and always do more than they are paid to do. Every employer should demand nothing less than Success-Minded People in his or her work force. Success-Minded People should be in such high demand that they are paid top dollar just to get them on board.
Now, for the reality vs. the what should be in life. Where Success-Minded People do have these qualities I am sad to say there are far too few of them. Too often they are distracted by the idea of demanding more and giving less. People are fed the lie that it is not “fair” that some should work harder than others for less money. Workers who are believers focus too much on evangelism during work hours and not on the jobs they are paid for. And in all cases, people are far too self-centered and lazy to do anything extra. Businessman Bo Bennett said “If you’re only doing what you’re getting paid for, and doing it no better than the average employee, then your pay is most likely where it should be.”
Success-Minded People must understand that there is no such thing as easy work. Success is earned and worked hard for. It is never free, never easy, never given and never, never, never a case of being fair. Say this out loud: “There is no such thing as fair!” The sooner you get that out of your head the faster you will move forward. The idea that you deserve something just because someone else has it is foolish. You get what you work for and that is how it should be. No work, no success.
The good news is that anyone can have great success if they are willing to do all that they need to in order to achieve it. All teachings on success talk of the same principles to achieve it. There few things work every time they are tried:
- Have a clear, well defined goal you wish to achieve.
- Know just what you will be willing to pay for that goal.
- Work harder that what you are paid for.
- Always be honest, loyal and committed to excellence.
- Think of others before you think of yourself.
- When someone is paying you for your time you must be faithful to give them that time.
Success-Minded People who follow these simple principles will always rise to the top of their field. Ask any employer and they will tell you, a good employee is hard to find. When they find one, wise business people do all they can to keep them. Walt Whitman once said “And there is no trade or employment but the young man following it may become a hero.” Always make excellence your standard and you will always be at the top of your field.
