Looking for Wonder

“The world will never starve for want of wonder, but only for want of wonder.” – G.K. Chesterton

I believe in magic. Not the kind of magic that is spells and talking to spirits. Not even the kind that is tricks and illusions. I believe in the magic that is all around us. The supernatural wonder of life that fills us with awe and wonderment. You see it in all creation, in the sun rise and sun set. You can see it in the mountains, desert and oceans around the world. There is no escaping it and that is what makes it so amazing. When man tries to make magic it is all illusion and fake, when God does it it is real.

Success-Minded People know that even though wonder is all around us you still have to look to see it. If you do not pay attention you miss it. God works wonders in the ordinary things of life. He does some of His greatest miracles in the events we face day to day. The wonders of God are all around us and in is. The fact that you keep taking breath, your heart beats and you can move about is an amazing thing. Thomas Brown said, “We carry within us the wonder we seek without us.”

There is great strength and encouragement when you look for the wonder that God is doing all about you. One of my favorite devotional is a book called Out of the Ordinary by David Roper. I make sure to read it once a year. Mr. Roper is one of my favorite writers as well. In the book he has a chapter titled, “I Spy”. Roper brings us back to memories as children when we would play the game “I Spy”. He suggests that we continue to play the game, only the things we are looking for are the wonders of God in ordinary places. How He is working in the lives of His people. David Roper writes, “Love penetrates all of life, even the modest and mundane events in which we do not expect to find God. It enables us to see Him at work and in the midst of common events, and what’s more, to point Him out to those who do not see Him.”

Take the time to look around you. Stay aware during the course of your day to what is going on. Be mindful of what God is doing and why. You will be amazed at how involved you will see Him in our lives. Success-Minded People are not special people, we are really quite ordinary. What sets Success-Minded People apart is that they pay attention to life. They are willing to step out and push the edge to see what God is doing. Author and speaker Napoleon Hill said, “Passive faith is no more a force than sight is in an eye that does not observe. Active faith steps out on it belief and risks failure because it assumes it will succeed.”

So how do we become so confident that we will succeed? It is because we have seen what God can do and is doing. We know He is able to bring us to success because we see Him do it all the time. Success-Minded People must pay attention to see and hear what God is doing. Psalm 29:4 says, “The voice of the Lord is powerful, the voice of the Lord is majestic.” Once you see His wonders and hear His voice you believe the impossible is possible. At that point there is no stopping you. If you knew all things were possible what you do? Oh, the wonders we can see if we only look.
