I think we are all familiar with the buddy system.  As a Cub Scout leader, I teach our boys to do all things with a buddy.  The Sweet Sixteen of BSA Safety, number 3 states: “The long history of the buddy system in Scouting has shown that it is always best to have at least one other person with you and aware at all times as to your circumstances and what you are doing in any outdoor or strenuous activity.”  Another definition I found was even better: “The buddy system is a safety precaution.  If something happens to one, there is someone there to help or go for help.  Also, there is a hope that if one is about to make a poor decision that the other will help them avoid it.”
